Arm, Hand & Carpal Tunnel

Arm and hand pain refers to everything below the shoulder. Using a mouse and keyboard, exercise,
combing your hair or brushing your teeth, cooking or cleaning are just a few causes of pain. Symptoms
include pain, weakness, stiffness or decreased movement and can arise from areas between the neck
and shoulder. Dr. Staley evaluates and examines the area to determine the cause not just the
symptoms. Dr. Staley is proficient at treating all of the extremities including the elbows, the wrists,
hands and fingers. His treatment is effective in over 90% of the cases. If you’re having problems with
your upper arm, elbow, wrist, hands or fingers, contact the Family Chiropractic Center and let Dr. Staley
get you back into life.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a compression of the median nerve that results in weakness, numbness,
tingling and pain around the thumb and three fingers. Women are 3X more likely to have carpal tunnel
because they have a smaller carpal tunnel. Surgical procedures to treat carpal tunnel costs thousands.
Rehab can run tens of thousands. Throw in lost wages and decreased activity during recovery and
surgery should be the last option. Less than 60% of surgical cases resolve fully. This is because two other
nerves that go to the hand are overlooked and untreated .
Causes include cervical discs, bone spurs, myofasciitis and impingement of the nerves at critical areas.
Activities related to CTS include repetitive movements such as using the mouse or cell phone, knitting,
crocheting, certain work tools, and prolonged vibration. Dr. Staley is highly experienced with performing
the appropriate evaluations and examinations to determine what is causing the hand pain and
numbness. Before going down the surgical route, always consider a conservative approach such as
chiropractic. Dr. Staley has treated hundreds of cases with a 98% success rate. So if you or someone you
know is dealing with symptoms of hand numbness, pain, weakness or tingling that may even radiate up
to the elbow, contact the Family Chiropractic Center and let Dr. Staley get you set on the right path.
